STATEMENT ABOUT MY WORK
My recent work grows out of my love of nature, the earth and natural materials. In the past fifteen years I have been using rock, wood, earth, grasses, nuts and berries to make installations in galleries and at site specific locations outside.
In 1997 when I was working on "Two Sticks in the Mud", a show for Highwire Gallery, making mud mounds, mud balls, and applying mud directly to the gallery wall I began to see possibilities of using mud on paper. I became fascinated with the richness, texture, and sheer fertility of mud, which seems to hold all death and all potential, both real and imaginary. I began working on small and large heavy paper, and this led to a one-person exhibit of 36 mudworks on paper called "Mud Mother" at Highwire in 1998 which received three favorable reviews...
